AI Consulting vs. AI Automation: What's the Difference?
Consulting is the decision. Automation is one way to carry the decision out.
Consulting answers a question
The question is some version of: given this business, what should we touch, and what should we leave alone? A consultant who skips that and opens a build is guessing with your budget.
Good consulting names the job, the tool categories that could do it, the data the tool would need, and the person who still owns the outcome when the tool is wrong.
Automation answers a workflow
Automation is narrower. A missed inquiry gets a reply. A booking lands on a calendar. A weekly report stops being assembled by hand. Each of those is a system with inputs, rules, and a failure mode.
It should be scoped like any other project. A fixed public price rarely survives contact with a real CRM, a real inbox, and a real exception.
You can buy either. Do not buy them backwards.
Teams get hurt when they install a workflow in order to discover the strategy. The install then has to be undone. Start with the audit. Use consulting if the decision is still fuzzy. Automate the piece you can describe on one page.
